Session of the Presidential National Commission for Women, Family and Demographic Policy chaired by Kazakhstan’s Secretary of State

Opening the meeting, Gulshara Abdykalikova focused on the words of Kazakhstan’s President Nursutan Nazarbayev, voiced in this year’s Address, “Comprehensive support for youth and the institution of a family should be a priority of state policy.”

- One of the key directions in the National Commission’s activities lies in strengthening of family values, especially among young people, the Secretary of State said.

The General Prosecutor’s Office of Kazakhstan provided information on the results of implementing the pilot project “Kazakhstan without Domestic Violence”. The Department for Family, Youth and Children was established in the akimats of the city of Shymkent and Turkestan region when actualizing it. The Centre for Medical and Psychological Rehabilitation was organized in Shymkent. 14 districts of Turkestan region and the city of Shymkent opened “Services of social and psychological support of the population”. Following the results of 9 months of 2018 they have held consultations on legal and social issues, and provided psychological assistance to 865 persons.

There was  also information on carrying out the Action Plan for 2017-2019 under the Concept of Family and Gender Policy in Kazakhstan until 2030 in Almaty region. In the region, under the Program for Development of Productive Employment and Mass Entrepreneurship for 2017–2021, 160 people were employed, 127 were sent to work, and 142 were accepted for retraining courses. For 10 months of this year, under Business Road Map 2020 Program, 23 women received state support in the form of interest rate subsidies totalling more than KZT 763 million. The youth resource centres of Almaty region have been established at youth resource centres, and their activity is aimed at forming and strengthening of family values ​​and prevention of divorces.

The Ministry of Public Development presented the draft Road Map for Family Development and Support for 2019-2024, providing for comprehensive interdepartmental work at all stages of family creation and development.

The Commission’s meeting reviewed the results of work for 2018 and the Work Plan for 2019.

At the end of the meeting, the Secretary of State gave a number of specific instructions to the governmental institutions.
